Leslie R. “Les” Crawford

Leslie R. “Les” Crawford, 82, of Toledo/Ft. Myers, FL, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014 in Fort Myers, FL. Les was born September 25, 1932 to John and Edna (Powers) in West Orange, New Jersey. He graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Ceramic Engineering. While at Rutgers he served as an officer in the ROTC, a division of the Armed Services. Les spent most of his career at Owens-Illinois in the area of quality, always focused on providing customers with a safe and affordable packaging solution. He worked in various facilities/positions throughout the company before locating to Corporate Headquarters in Toledo in 1976 to lead the newly created corporate quality group. He enjoyed working with customers and developing people. Les retired in 1990 as an executive with Owens-Illinois, Inc. where he had a meaningful 32 year career. Les had passion for all he did; family, friends, work and fun. He had a passion for glass and the quality nature of the product. He enjoyed his work and the friendships he developed over his career. Born and raised in New Jersey, Les was a ‘die hard’ New York sports fan. The Yankees were his lifelong favorite, followed closely by the Giants. He also loved the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. He enjoyed sports of all sorts, including frequent golf matches with friends in both the Toledo and Ft. Myers area. Les was very committed to his local community in Ft. Myers Beach, Harbour Pointe. He organized many social events and participated on the board, including president of the association for the last several years. Les was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Anne, in 2010. Les is survived by daughters, Maureen (Edmund) Vogel of Chesterfield, MO, Suzanne Crawford of Toledo, OH and Patricia Crawford of Ft. Myers, FL; sons, John of Richmond, VA and L. Richard (Jani) of Sylvania, OH; grandchildren, Megan and Edmund Vogel III, Melissa (Nick) Lorenz, Kylee (Kyle) Stokes, Les Crawford III, Matthew and Jessica Wiciak, Brady and Kelsey Crawford; great grandchildren Preston Kingery, Margot Vogel, Genevieve and Drake Lorenz and Keegan Stokes. Cousins Alisanne and Ed Skeffington of Seaside Park, NJ. Visitation was held at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, OH on Friday, December 26, 2014 from 3pm to 8pm, where a Scripture Service was conducted at 7pm. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sylvania at 10am on Saturday, December 27, 2014. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
