Hallet Obit

James J. Hallet recently died suddenly of a heart attack while visiting family in Newport, N.Y. at 68 years young. Known as Jim to friends and family, Hallet was a devoted teacher, corporate pilot and boat captain. He had his final flight on June 15, 2009.
Born in Buffalo, he graduated from Buffalo State University and went on to teach at Seneca Vocational for 34 years. Jim was a long-time resident of Grand Island and the Buffalo Launch Club. His life-long love of the water led him to become a licensed boat captain and later captain of the “Grand Lady” tour boat on the Niagara River.
Throughout his life, adventure was never far away. Jim earned his commercial pilot license, certified flight instructor rating and began to fulfill his passion for aviation. Becoming a corporate pilot for many companies based in Buffalo, hence spending the last years of his career flying a corporate jet throughout North and South America.
He retired to Fort Myers Beach where he enjoyed boating, fishing and spending time with friends. He truly enjoyed life to the fullest. Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial for him will be held at Castaways at Santini Marina Plaza at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16.
