Florida Public Relations Association announces accreditation for Eric Jackson
Eric Jackson, a member of the Southwest Florida Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA), has earned his professional public relations accreditation, receiving the designation of Accredited in Public Relations (APR).
He joins more than 4,500 active public relations professionals worldwide who represent an elite group of skilled practitioners committed to practicing with high ethical standards, including 39 currently in Southwest Florida. Fewer than 2% of public relations practitioners have earned the APR, underscoring the significance of this accomplishment.
As Public Information Officer for the City of Sanibel, Jackson plays a key role in researching, creating, and overseeing a comprehensive public information initiative that encompasses media relations, public relations, education, and marketing. Previously, he served as the Deputy Director of Public Information & Education for the Lee County Mosquito Control District (LCMCD).
Dedicated to strengthening community connections, his professional interests center on enhancing public understanding of local issues, fostering partnerships with service-oriented agencies, and staying attuned to legislative initiatives that shape the community and environment. Outside of work, he enjoys exploring the outdoors and champions sustainability and conservation throughout Southwest Florida.
Jackson began his professional career as a teacher in the suburbs of Chicago and later in the Lee County school system. He worked as both a classroom teacher and curriculum specialist in South Fort Myers before accepting a teaching position at The Sanibel School. He transitioned into public relations and community engagement when he joined LCMCD in 2010.
A graduate of Western Michigan University, Jackson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and later completed the graduate program in Educational Leadership at Florida Gulf Coast University. He has served on the Legislative Committee and Public Relations Committee for the Florida Mosquito Control Association, on the Education and Certification Committee and Board of Directors for the Florida Association of Special Districts, and on the Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of Fort Myers. He is also a member of the Florida Public Relations Association, National Information Officers Association, Florida Municipal Communicators Association, and Sanibel Captiva Rotary Club.
To earn public relations accreditation, candidates must pass an oral presentation and rigorous written examination administered by the Universal Accreditation Board (UAB), which is an alliance of eight national and statewide professional associations dedicated to furthering the field of public relations and the development of public relations professionals. FPRA is a member of the UAB.
