CCPD Volunteer Unit presents recognition awards
The Cape Coral Police Department Police Volunteer Unit recognized Wednesday the men and women whose efforts saved the department nearly $1.47 million last year.
Recognitions were made at an appreciation luncheon held at the Yacht Club.
The Volunteer of the Year award went to David Woodward.
Volunteers perform a number of functions for the CCPD.
Among them are:
– Provides traffic control at city-sponsored events and at crash scenes assisting Police Officers
– Traffic Watch Program – implemented to assist Officers with neighborhood speed complaints
-?Kiddie Print & DNA program – provides this valuable service through community outreach events
– Vacation home checks
– Court document delivery
– Police Department vehicle transports
– PVU Marine Unit provides a presence on the waterways to assist boaters
– Provide assistance at both the Police Department and at City Hall at the information desks
In 2017 the Police Volunteer Unit logged 52,992 hours in-kind donations which resulted in $1,279,226.88 savings to the City of Cape Coral, CCPD officials said.
In 2018, the PVU logged and amazing 59,484.35 volunteer hours in-kind donations for an approximate payroll savings of $1,468,668.60.

“Our Police Volunteer Unit is comprised of men and women of all ages who want to give back to their community, learn about and become part of the Cape Coral Police Department family, and have fun while doing it. Our volunteers complete a background investigation and a 6-week Police Volunteer Academy to learn the basics of our police procedures, how to operate department vehicles and equipment, direct traffic, communicate on our radios, and more”.
