Southeast 47th Terrace streetscape project nears completion

2 min read

The South Cape’s 47th Terrace Streetscape project that was expected to be completed in December, is tentatively set for completion early this year, according to officials.

“The initial projection was to complete the project in December but construction schedules are always subject to change, based on a variety of factors. Some of the work projected for December was moved to January in order to better accommodate businesses and patrons in the area during the holiday shopping season,” said spokesperson for the project, Lauren O’Neill.

The Cape Coral Council approved the project in early 2017, with a guaranteed maximum price of $12,491,257.

The venture has been met with some criticism from close-by business, as the construction sometimes made it difficult for patrons to visit the establishments in the area.

The projects goal is to improve business for the neighboring areas and Streetscape officials have worked with the business owners to keep them in the loop, they said.

“Our goal all along has been to complete this project as quickly and thoroughly as possible so businesses and patrons alike can benefit from the improved roads, sidewalks, landscape and beautification of the area,” said O’Neill. “We communicated closely with businesses and stakeholders to keep them informed so that when construction work would be in their area, they would know what to expect.”

Crews have worked throughout the established holiday schedule instituted at the beginning of the project, and have even worked weekends to get ready for events such as the New Year’s Eve Ball Drop that recently took place in the area.

“Crews worked according to the agreed-upon schedule throughout the holidays,” said O’Neill. “In some cases, they worked on weekends.”

Beginning on Jan. 7, the Vincennes Boulevard roundabout will temporarily close for crews to complete crosswalks, landscaping, milling and other work.

n Monday, Jan. 7 – Friday, Jan. 11: north, south, west and east entrances will be closed; south, east and west entrances are anticipated to re-open beginning the evening of Jan. 11 through the morning of Jan. 14

n Monday, Jan. 14- Friday, Jan. 18: all four directions will be closed.

The roundabout is anticipated to re-open to traffic in all directions on Jan. 19.
