Cape’s first baby of 2019 comes Jan. 2

It isn’t often that Cape Coral Hospital’s Family Birth Center goes a day without a new baby, but that’s what happened on New Year’s Day.

The joy would have to wait until Jan. 2, when, at 8:07 a.m., Connor Michael Tallmadge entered the world.

Connor weighed eight pounds, three ounces and measured in at 21.5 inches.

Colleen and John Tallmadge, of Cape Coral, are his parents, and Connor will be the little brother of Brigit, who saw the baby for the first time Wednesday. The new big sister can expect some “birth day” gifts from family and the newborn, alike, the parents said.

“It’s exciting and a little nerve wracking because I now have two. I wonder how I will juggle working full time and being a full-time mother,” Colleen said. “But I will get through that putting one foot in front of the other. I’m happy to start this new chapter in my life.”

The birth did not go without a hitch – as Colleen was having labor induced, the baby’s heart rate fell, prompting the doctor the perform an emergency C-section, which was a complete success.

“Everything was going fine until the baby’s heart rate dropped and the doctors decided to do the C-section,” Colleen said. “The baby is healthy and everything is good.”

John, who gave high praise to the hospital staff, said it will be awesome to have a boy and a girl to take golfing and other family activities.

“We have a foursome now so we can play together as a family. Saturday looks good,” John said.

The first birth in Lee County happened at HealthPark at 1:07 a.m. on Tuesday. Adilynn O’Grady was born to Jennifer and Sean O’Grady of North Fort Myers.

She weighed 9 pounds, 5 ounces and was 20 inches at birth.
