Governor appoints Marceno Lee County Sheriff

Gov. Rick Scott has appointed Carmine Marceno Jr. as sheriff in the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Sheriff Mike Scott on Sept. 24.

“Sheriff Mike Scott has been dedicated to serving the people of Lee County for the past 30 years. We are grateful for his service to his community and to Florida, ” Gov. Scott said in a prepared statement announcing the appointment. “Today, I am proud to appoint Carmine Marceno Jr. as Sheriff of Lee County. With Undersheriff Marceno having nearly 20 years of law enforcement experience and having worked closely with Sheriff Scott, I am confident that he will work every day to protect and serve Lee County.”

Retiring sheriff Scott said he is confident Marceno will serve the community well.

“I’d like to thank Governor Scott for his leadership and for continuing to invest in public safety so that Florida’s crime rate could hit a 47-year low in 2018,” Sheriff Scott said in the statement. “It has truly been an honor to serve the Lee County community. Undersheriff Marceno is an experienced law enforcement officer who has worked with me for years, and I have the utmost confidence that he will keep working every day to protect our families and visitors.”

Marceno will fill the vacancy on Sept. 25.

Marceno, 46, of Fort Myers, has served in the Lee County Sheriff’s Office since 2013. He received a U.S. Department of Justice Graduation Certificate from the FBI National Academy.

Mike Scott has served as the Lee County Sheriff for 14 years and has served the community of Lee County for the past 30 years.
