Yappy Hour fundraiser to benefit business owner fighting cancer
A Yappy Hour fundraiser will be held next week to help raise money for a Cape Coral business owner fighting two types of cancer.
“Save All the Puppies” will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9, at Redfish Point.
There will be doggy welcome bags for all the pooches who attend as well as passed apps and yapps for the dogs and food and drink specials for their owners.
Redfish Point owner Jane Beatty-Williams said she met Nicole Kane, owner of Dog Days Delight, when she became her dogs groomer.
They became friends.
“We are going to do something while she is undergoing cancer treatment to keep her business going,” she said, adding that it’s one business owner to another, helping each other out.
Just recently, Kane was diagnosed with breast and thyroid cancer. She began radiation treatment on Nov. 20. She has 30 radiation treatments to undergo for breast cancer, which should take about six weeks to complete.
With the thyroid cancer being isolated doctors were not worried about it spreading. The doctors currently are in the process of scheduling surgery to remove the thyroid as well as a hysterectomy.
“She is tackling it head on. I’m pretty impressed with her,” Beatty-Williams said.
With Kane being a small business owner and the only groomer, while she is undergoing treatment and recovering from surgery, keeping the business afloat may become a struggle, which is why the fundraiser is being held.
Kane said “Nicole’s Blush” will be used as a “pawtini” to be purchased at the event, since she knows it is made from great ingredients as they sell Clear Conscience Pets products in their storefront.
“I thought it would be a fun add to the event to have the Blush Pawtini for the Yappy Hour,” she said.
“Nicole’s Blush” is a product made with whole superfoods including Greek yogurt powder, dried chicken liver, dried veggies, kelp and chia seed. The blush blend features TRI-GESTIVE three-way digestive health blend of probiotics, prebiotics and digestive enzymes.
A Chinese auction also will be held, providing attendees a chance to purchase tickets at an arms length to put into bags to try their chance at winning a prize.
All dogs will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with Santa Claus.
The dogs also will have the opportunity to have petti-cures done — nail clips offered during the event.
“Any dog is welcome. We are asking that it be leashed, but not zip leashes that come in and out,” Beatty-Williams said.
Half of the proceeds from drinks will be given to Kane and she said they are donating the food.
“Everything that we do that day is going to get donated to Nicole,” she said, including the $10 entry donation. “The entry fee will be donated to Nicole as well.”
Kane said she is so humble and grateful for people who have put themselves out there in her time of need.
Beatty-Williams said holding the event is big for her on two counts.
“I do animal transport from Georgia to New Jersey. I have four dogs, two of which Nicole grooms. One is a feisty thing and she is the only one that can touch him. It’s quite a blessing,” she said. “It’s a great way to build relationships with people and all work together for the common good.”
Kane opened Dog Days Delight a month before the economic crash occurred in 2008. By building up her clientele she was able to pull through a very tight first year and a half.
The business offers full grooming — bathing and haircuts, as well as daycare/boarding and a dog rescue. There are currently three dogs that are adoptable and two working towards being adoptable.
Redfish Point is at 1520 Lafayette St. in Cape Coral.
