Ringing in the New Year
As we get set to ring in the new year, Cape residents can take to various locations throughout the area to watch the ball drop or take in a fireworks spectacular in farewell of 2019 and hello to a new decade.
The freshly re-developed Southeast 47th Terrace will play host to the South Cape Hospitality & Entertainment Association’s New Year’s Eve Ball Drop on Dec. 31 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
SCHEA will also host a trolly event from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. also on New Year’s Eve.
The event is free and features live music from Soulixer and DJ IronMike. There will also be a kids arena, vendor village, food trucks, drink tents and a beach ball drop at midnight.
All of the action takes place on Southeast 47th Terrace between Southeast 9th Place and Southeast 11th Place.
Participating locations in the trolly event include Big Storm Brewing Co., Ralph’s Place, Tiki Hut, Monkey Bar, Ollie’s Pub, Rusty’s Raw Bar & Grill and Remixx Lounge.
Check-in for the trolley event is from 7-8:30 p.m. at Big John Plaza. The event is 21-plus. Identification is required. Designated driver tickets are available at a discounted rate.

At Fathoms in Cape Harbour, take a step back in time, a century long step, as the Roaring 20s will be the theme of the evening. Dress up in your best Gatsby-like threads and enjoy a three-course prefixed menu and special Norman Love New Year’s Eve Dessert.
“We thought the idea of the Roaring 20s would be fun with this new year being 2020,” said Valeria Zanella-Voisin, partner and marketing director for Fathoms and sister restaurant, Gather.
Live music from “Soapy Tuna” runs until 1 a.m. Dinner comes with a glass of complementary champagne, as well as a ball drop countdown.
“There will be lots of decorations and we hope people come dressed up in their Roaring 20s garb,” said Zanella-Voisin. “We hope it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Reservations are necessary for the prefixed dinner menu. There are three seating times available: 6, 8 and 10 p.m. The menu is $80 per person.
At Tarpon Point, Gather will also be welcoming the new year in Roaring 20s attire.
Here, you can take in fireworks at midnight and be treated to music from DJ Flex.
“Customers love the ball drop and fireworks at midnight,” said Zanella-Voisin.
Gather is also doing a prefixed, three-course menu, that includes a glass of champagne or select craft cocktail. Reservations are required and seating times are also 6, 8 and 10 p.m. Dinner is $95 per person.
