Lee County operations adjust schedules for the holidays

Most Lee County administrative operations will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24, and Wednesday, Dec. 25, in observance of the Christmas holiday, as well as on Tuesday, Dec. 31, and Wednesday, Jan. 1, for the New Year’s holiday.

The holiday schedule adjustments:

Solid Waste

* Solid Waste offices and the Topaz Court Solid Waste Annex will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24, and Wednesday, Dec. 25. The Resource Recovery Facility in Buckingham will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 25, but open regular hours on Tuesday, Dec. 24.

All garbage, recycling and yard waste collections in unincorporated Lee County, the City of Bonita Springs, the Village of Estero and the Town of Fort Myers Beach will take place one day after the regularly scheduled collection day beginning Thursday, Dec. 26. This means that if the regular collection day is Wednesday, the collection truck will pick up material on Thursday. Thursday’s regularly scheduled pickups will occur on Friday and so on, the rest of the week through Saturday, Dec. 28. Also, on Wednesday, Jan. 1, there will not be any regular collection; if the regular collection day is Wednesday, the collection truck will pick up that material on Thursday. Thursday’s regularly scheduled pickups will occur on Friday and so on, the rest of the week through Saturday, Jan. 4.

Regular collection schedules resume on Monday, Jan. 6.

Christmas trees that have had the stand and all lights and decorations removed, including tinsel, can be set out with regular yard waste and will be ground into mulch. All wrapping paper, except metallic, is recyclable — along with cardboard boxes. Plastic ribbons and bows are not recyclable.

Lee County Utilities

* Dec. 24 and Dec. 25, the Customer Service Center will be closed.

* Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, the Customer Service Center will be closed.

LeeTran

* LeeTran will operate its regularly scheduled bus service on Tuesday, Dec. 24. There will be no bus service on Wednesday, Dec. 25. Bus service will resume on Thursday, Dec. 26. Visit rideleetran.com for specific route information.

* There will be extended trolley services for downtown Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach on New Year’s Eve. Service to downtown Fort Myers ends at 1 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1. Service to Fort Myers Beach ends at 2 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1.

* There will be no daily service for LeeTran routes on Wednesday, Jan. 1. Service will resume Thursday, Jan. 2.

Parks & Recreation

* Tuesday, Dec. 24, and Wednesday, Dec. 25, beaches, boat ramps, parks and preserves will be open. The Administration office, pools, community centers and Six Mile Cypress Slough Interpretive Center will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24, and Wednesday, Dec. 25, resuming normal operating hours Thursday, Dec. 26.

* Tuesday, Dec. 31, and Wednesday, Jan. 1, beaches, boat ramps, parks and preserves will be open. The Administration office, pools, community centers and Six Mile Cypress Slough Interpretive Center will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 31, and Wednesday, Jan. 1, resuming normal operating hours Thursday, Jan. 2.

* The county’s four recreation centers North Fort Myers, Wa-Ke Hatchee, Veterans and Estero will be closed through the holidays due to scheduled annual maintenance. Estero will be closed from Saturday, Dec. 21, through Sunday, Jan. 5. North Fort Myers, Wa-Ke Hatchee and Veterans will be closed from Monday, Dec. 23, through Sunday, Jan. 5.

Library System

* Dec. 24 and Dec. 25, all branches and library administration will be closed.

* Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, all branches and library administration will be closed.

Lee County Domestic Animal Services

* Tuesday, Dec. 24, and Wednesday, Dec. 25, the Lost & Found Pet Center and the Pet Adoption Center will be closed. Normal hours resume Thursday, Dec. 26, at 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers.

* Tuesday, Dec. 31, and Wednesday, Jan. 1, the Lost & Found Pet Center and the Pet Adoption Center will be closed. Normal hours resume Thursday, Jan. 2.
