CCPD: Mother shot son, dog, then self
The Cape Coral Police Department said Thursday that a death investigation involving a mother and son has been determined to be a murder-suicide.
CCPD said its investigation revealed that Joanne Lynn Walpole, 59, shot her son, Michael Edward Walpole, 37, and the family dog before turning the gun on herself.
Police arrived to a home in the 2600 block of NW 9th Street around 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, to find the mother and son deceased.
CCPD said the investigation into the motive is ongoing at this time.
The family dog was removed by Lee County Animal Control and has survived.
