Cape resident charged in 20-year-old Wisconsin murder case
The Cape Coral Police Department reported this week that its Major Crimes Unit had arrested a Cape Coral woman on an out-of-state warrant in a homicide case dating back to 1999 in Racine County, Wisconsin.
According to the CCPD website, this week the department’s Major Crimes Unit worked with investigators from the Racine County Sheriff’s Office on the cold case. Racine County’s two decades old case involved a deceased woman, initially a “Jane Doe,” and later identified as 23-year-old Peggy Lynn Johnson. Racine County officers then developed Linda Sue Laroche, 64, of 4220 S.E. 8th Place, as a suspect, Cape Police reported.
The CCPD indicated its detectives assisted the Racine County investigators with interviews and evidence collection, and Racine County was able to obtain an arrest warrant for Laroche for first degree homicide in Johnson’s death.
The CCPD Major Crimes Unit, along with investigators from Racine County, took Laroche into custody on the warrant Tuesday, Nov. 5, and she will now be extradited to Wisconsin to face charges, police said.
The CCPD has asked that if anyone in the Cape Coral area has any information regarding this case that may assist the Racine County Sheriff’s Office in furthering the investigation, either through contact or conversation with Laroche or any other means, please contact Racine County Lt. Brian Vanscyoc at 262-886-8497.
