Tickets on sale for Cape’s 50th anniversary Jubilee
Cape Coral’s 50th anniversary will be celebrated throughout 2020, marking five decades since the city’s incorporation.
The Cape Coral Historical Museum & Society is set to kick off the celebration with two events in January to honor the Cape’s unique history, diverse residents and those who laid the groundwork for the city we have become today.
Tickets are now on sale for the Jubilee Celebration, co-chaired by Gloria Tate and ToniRae Hurley, taking place Jan. 24, 2020, at the Cape Coral Yacht Club from 6-10 p.m.
The “evening of appreciation” will honor the city’s past leaders, residents and staff who played, and continue to play, an instrumental role in growing the community.
“We are both very excited about showcasing our history, and celebrating our 50 years of success,” Tate said. “We have a beautiful story to tell, and we plan to share our excitement and hope to inspire our community in this showcase of our history. The Cape Coral Historical Society is dedicated in preserving and protecting artifacts, data, art,and materials that will teach our citizens about the history of Cape Coral.”
The evening will feature a historical display of Cape Coral, a program from Waltzing Water – Liquid Fireworks, a short film showcasing the history of the city, art display, speakers and more.
Selected speakers include Linda Sterling, who is the daughter of community developer Leonard Rosen and his granddaughter, Julia Swift.
Organizers are planning an “I remember when” panel made up of early residents, along with a proclamation from Mayor Joe Coviello.
Past mayors, council members and city staff will also be present for the jubilation.
“Celebrating our history should be important to everyone who calls Cape Coral home,” Tate said. “Our history explains and defines the footprint the Rosens set forth. The people who believed in Cape Coral pushed for incorporation, so that we would have a better future for all our citizens. Cape Coral residents give unconditionally. They see a need and make the city a better place to live in.”
The Yacht Club was the first and only choice for this celebration, said Tate, given it’s the hub of Cape Coral and the detailed history there.
Tickets to the event are $50 each. Groups of 10 can reserve a table together; otherwise, seating is chosen for guests.
The event is limited to 300 tickets which can be purchased at CapeCoralHistoricalMuseum.org/JubileeCelebreationTickets.
Tickets include valet parking, a buffet and hors d’oeuvres, a champagne toast and one drink ticket.
Guests will also get to take home the champagne glass etched with the 50th anniversary logo. A commemorative T-shirt is also being designed for the event and will be revealed soon.
Dress code is business attire.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Cape Coral Historical Museum & Society.
Tickets for Jammin’ in Cultural Park, a concert to be held the next day, will be for sale shortly, organizers said.
