School District announces 2019 Financial Aid Nights

2 min read

The School District of Lee County, with the help of a local financial aid expert, is hosting several Financial Aid Nights Oct. 15-24. Each session starts at 6 p.m. in the host school’s auditorium and is intended for high school juniors and seniors and their parents.

Families in attendance will learn about the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form and steps they need to take to help their children receive financial aid from postsecondary institutions (colleges, community colleges, high tech centers, etc.)

Mathew Sanchez, the Director of Student Financial Aid at Florida SouthWestern College, will lead the discussion about the definition of financial aid, how to apply, deadlines, step-by-step instructions for completing the FAFSA, Bright Futures, state aid versus federal aid and more.

At least one Financial Aid night is planned for each zone, but students and parents are invited to come to the one most convenient to them. The financial aid process can be very intimidating, and these workshops demystify the procedure and help families feel more comfortable in going through the steps.

For many students, the dream of continuing their education past high school would not be possible if not for financial aid. These events will demonstrate the numerous ways students can get the financial help they need to make their college or university dreams a reality.

The schedule for Financial Aid Nights is:

West Zone — Tuesday, Oct. 15, Cape Coral High School, 2300 Santa Barbara Blvd., Cape Coral, FL 33991

South Zone — Thursday, Oct. 17, South Fort Myers High School, 14020 Plantation Road, Fort Myers, FL 33912

East Zone — Tuesday, Oct. 22, Lehigh Senior High School, 901 Gunnery Road, N., Lehigh Acres, FL 33971
