A new hotel by Marriott is set to break ground in Cape Coral next week.

Construction is set to begin on a 109-room Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott at the southeast quadrant of Pine Island Road and Del Prado Boulevard on Old Pondella Road.

The approximately $14 million project is expected to take 13 months to complete, and is scheduled to open in the fall of 2020. There will be a groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. behind Outback Steakhouse at the site location.

“The project is within easy walking distance to Outback Steakhouse, Pollo Tropical, Chili’s Bar and Grill, Chik-Fil-A, and Koto Grill Sushi and Steakhouse,” a release from Continental Properties Company, Inc, which will be constructing the hotel, states.

The City of Cape Coral administrative staff, led by City Manager John Szerlag, Department of Community Development Director Vincent Cautero, Economic Development Manager Ricardo Noguera, Business Recruitment Specialist Nita Whaley, Terri Hall Economic Development Office, Dave Hyyti, Development Service, and others were critical to the success of the permitting process, officials from Continental Properties said.

“This city staff is second to none when it comes to supporting important community development projects,” said Steve Wagner, Senior VP of Hospitality Acquisitions at Continental Properties Company, Inc, in a release.

“We’re very excited,” Wagner said. “Cape Coral is a terrific city and we’re very anxious to get this project underway.”
