Big Blue Brewing Comedy Night benefit to help Cape animal shelter

3 min read

A pint of beer and a night of laughter go hand in hand.

Big Blue Brewing is pulling its taps and pouring out such an occasion on Sept. 18, as Comedy Night comes to the Cape featuring comedian RC Smith, all to benefit the Cape Coral Animal Shelter.

“The night should be lots of fun in a great venue,” said Liz McCauley, executive director for the Cape Coral Animal Shelter. “We do a lot of events at Big Blue.”

The night of laughs gets going at 7:30 p.m. and runs until 9:30.

The event will be hosted by fellow comedian and Cape Coral native Sheena Reagan. Admission is $10 at the door.

Smith is a headlining performer across the county and Canada, and is a regular at casinos and resorts in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

“His style is rapid-fire, relentless and non-stop,” a release on the event described Smith.

He is also the warm-up comic for ABC’s “The Chew,” “The Rachel Ray Show,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and more.

Smith is a regular around the state of Florida, appearing at Anthony’s on the Blvd, the Chuckle Hut and Laugh-In Comedy Cafe in Fort Myers recently.

Though the night is slated to be a knee-slapping good time, the aim is to raise money to support the Cape’s first animal shelter.

“This is a good opportunity for us to do something good for the shelter,” McCauley said.

The Cape Coral Animal Shelter broke ground in November of last year and will be the Cape’s such facility. McCauley said she is hopeful they will be able to open their doors one year after construction began — this November.

The shelter is located on a 4.6-acre site next to Sun Splash Family Waterpark.

This fundraiser will help outfit the shelter with supplies.

“We’re still in the process of building,” McCauley said. “This fundraiser will greatly help us purchase supplies. We’re almost there, but every penny helps.”

The animal shelter’s President, JoAnn Elardo, is the founder of Wicked Dolphin, which is a sister company of Big Blue.

Both Wicked Dolphin and Big Blue have been praised for their award-winning adult beverages.

Big Blue even won Best Beer in Florida in 2018 by Best Florida Beer at the Brewers Ball in Tampa, for their “Lightest Thing Ya Got” lager and took home Best Brewpub in the state.

Big Blue also offers food for its patrons, something many brewpubs do not. You can find appetizers like fried pickles or crab dip, flatbreads, salads, sandwiches, burgers, tacos, salmon, chicken and so much more.

Not a beer drinker? Big Blue also serves wine and cocktails, many featuring Wicked Dolphin selections.

There are no reservations required for comedy night. Seating is first come, first serve.

Big Blue is at 4721 SE 10th Place.
