Speed limits, parking, among items on light council agenda
Cape Coral City Council is expected to have another light agenda when it conducts its regular meeting Monday.
The agenda includes consideration of two proposed ordinances that are essentially housekeeping measures.
One regards speed limits on city roads.
City Manager John Szerlag is expected to ask the Council to set the maximum posted speed limit at 30 mph on classified local roadways.
In a city memo, it stated that most local residential roads in the city have posted speed limits of 30 mph, which is the minimum and maximum limits within a municipality.
Public works occasionally gets requests from citizens to conduct speed studies on roads to determine if posted speed limits are appropriate.
Sometimes the results indicate the speed limit should be raised. The ordinance would keep that from happening, and should increase safety on the roadways, officials said.
Another ordinance would prohibit the parking commercial vehicles on certain street between 2 and 6 a.m.
The Public Works Department has received concerns from the Northeast Industrial Park Association regarding overnight parking of commercial vehicles which they say has obstructed business operations.
The ordinance will focus on six specific areas. Those areas will have signs posted to ban overnight parking, which would give police the authority to enforce the law and write citations.
The Council is also expected to vote on measures to allow the city manager to sell land in the northwest Cape determined to be “surplus.”
Cape Coral City Council meetings begin at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall, 1015 Cultural Park Blvd.
On Tuesday, the third and final joint meeting between the City Council and the Budget Review Committee will at 1 p.m. at City Hall in Council chambers.
The groups will tie up loose ends and try to get the budget down to the BRC’s recommended rollback rate of 6.4903.
