3 min read

Friday, Aug. 30, 2019 MORNING UPDATE / DORIAN

Update:

Based on the current forecasts, there is no question Florida will be impacted; to what degree Southwest Florida will be impacted remains uncertain.

Rain This will be a long-duration event.

The ground will become saturated. Expect localized flooding and potentially downed trees.

Based on the work the county has done in the last two years post-Irma, we know our tributaries and flow ways are clear.

DOT crews are out monitoring, clearing any recent debris.

Wind it’s too early to know exactly how severe wind impacts will be.

Storm surge it’s too early to tell if Lee County will experience storm surge.

The public should know that Lee County is as prepared as possible.

The county will declare a Local State of Emergency today.

The United Way 211 hotline (to receive calls from the public and other duties) will be activated at 3:30 p.m. today.

The Emergency Operations Center will move to a partial activation at 3:30 p.m. today. (Partial activation means limited key agencies involved in initial planning)

Shelters are not open at this time. Discussions will happen and decisions will be made about whether to open shelters over the next day or so. It’s too soon to make that call today.

The list of shelters on the EOC website is a list of what is available; it does not mean any or all will open. Announcements of what will open will come from EOC.

Yard Waste, Recycling, Trash

Lee County Solid Waste asks that you do NOT place any yard waste at your curb this weekend.

Regular trash, recycling and yard waste pick up will happen today and Saturday.

The Lee County Buckingham Campus will be open to the public until noon Saturday.

There will be no collection of trash, yard waste or recycling countywide including all cities on Monday and Tuesday.

The county will make an announcement related to collections in advance of Wednesday.

LeeTran

LeeTran is monitoring Hurricane Dorian and will continue to provide fixed bus route and paratransit services until further notice. LeeTran will deliver updates regularly through the EOC in order to notify the community of service-related updates.

County offices

Today all county locations are open with normal operating hours.

Many county sites will be closed for Labor Day.

Updates about any potential closures for Tuesday will be released this weekend.

The Tuesday Board of County Commissioners meeting and the Budget Hearing for Tuesday night are still planned; updates will be given this weekend if that changes.
