Sun Splash celebrates moms with free admission
As the weather starts to heat up across Southwest Florida, mothers and their families looking for a cool weekend can find reprieve from the heat with a discount.
Sun Splash Family Waterpark, the region’s largest, is offering free admission during Mother’s Day weekend once again with the purchase of a regular priced child or teen general admission ticket.
“We recognize that family entertainment budgets are limited, so are pleased to offer the Mother’s Day weekend special as a fun way for families to thank moms and spend quality time together,” said Sandie Greiner, manager of the city owned and operated water park.
New renovations over the last few years, plus the addition of alcoholic beverage sales, may give Sun Splash a whole new look to residents who have not attended in recent seasons.
Prize opportunities for moms include some treats that can make this Mother’s Day a truly special one.
“We have some great prizes for mothers,” Greiner said.
The park will be raffling off over $2,000 in goodies, including a 3-day, 2-night stay at Pointe Estero Beach Resort, as well as gift certificates to the Sanibel Outlets and Ideal Image.
Prizes will be drawn on Sunday at 4 p.m. and you do not have to be present to win.
“The weekend is about honoring our mothers,” Greiner said. “It’s a good time to get out, enjoy the day and get a break, maybe enjoy a sangria and relax.”
City Council approved a two-drink limit at the park prior to opening this season.
Greiner was pleased with the decision as she said she received countless calls from potential patrons asking if they served alcohol.
So, how will they enforce the two-drink limit?
Greiner said that when patrons want to drink, they will sign in with their name and license and receive a wrist band that will have two tabs. Get a drink, lose a tab.
The recording system allows them look back and see if someone has been dishonest about receiving one.
Now, drinking-age adults who come out for a day of relaxation, fun rides and cool water can do so with an adult beverage in-hand.
The park has more than 14 acres of attractions.
The new “Pirates Cove” – – a popular children’s area – – has been resurfaced after the park had issues last season, installed by the same company that Disney uses.
The cove is an interactive water play structure for younger adventurers, featuring slides, a hydro storm, blaster, gushers geysers and more.
“It’s been good,” Greiner said of the season thus far. We’re hoping this is a comeback year of sorts for us — the beginning of something better. The weather looks like it’s going to be good this weekend.”
Sun Splash has lots to offer not just kids, but the whole family.
You can relax along the Main Stream River Tube Ride as is gently navigates you through the park.
For the thrill-seekers, Thunder Bump, Terror Tube and the X-celerator drop guests down a steep incline, perfect for the adrenaline rush you’re looking for.
Flumes, tunnels and slides all find a home at Sun Splash, varying in size and ferocity.
Rides like the Electric Slide, Power Surge and Cape Fear will leave the whole family immersed in adventure.
“Come out and enjoy the day and let the kids wait on mom for a change,” said Greiner.
Admission rates for residents are: $14.95 for kids; $16.95 for adults (13+) and $14.95 for seniors (60+).
Rates for non-residents are: $17.95 for kids, $19.95 for adults and $17.95 for seniors.
Group rates are available.
Current hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the park open only on weekends.
