Lehigh Acres man charged in crash with child fatality
A Lehigh Acres man has been arrested on a felony traffic charge in connection with a crash that fatally injured a 5-year-old boy last November.
Mitchell T. Buenrostro, 18, was charged Wednesday with driving without a license resulting in death following a Florida Highway Patrol investigation into the Nov. 11 collision.
According to the FHP report, Buenrostro, who was 17 at the time, ran a stop sign and entered an intersection on Gunnery Road directly in the path of a minvan.
The Dodge 1500 Buenrostro was driving hit the right side of a Nissan Quest, traveled off the road, and overturned. The impact also drove the minivan off the road before it struck a ditch.
Buenrostro and his three passengers, who were 15, 18 and 19, each had minor injuries, according to the FHP report.
The driver of the minivan, Ashley Green, also of Lehigh, and her 2-year-old daughter also incurred injuries that FHP listed as minor. Green’s son, Connor, 5, succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Lehigh Regional Hospital. Both children had been properly restrained with a car seat or seatbelt.
Buenrostro remained in the Lee County Jail Wednesday afternoon. Bond had not yet been set.
Adjudication has been referred to Juvenile Court with a scheduled date of May 20.
