The Southwest Florida Military Museum and Library is holding a first-time event featuring art and wine this weekend to take individuals on a journey through vivid and moving art depicting what veterans experienced through war.

The Mural Walk & Wine Tasting event will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at 4820 Leonard Street. Tickets, which can be purchased at swflmm.org, or by calling (239) 541-8704, are $10 in advance, or $15 at the door.

The event will feature local artist Mary Ann Passatore and country specific wine tasting. Hors d’oeuvres will also be provided by local supporters.

SWFL Military Museum and Library Event Coordinator Denise Wood said Passatore has done all the murals and mannequins in the museum.

“We wanted to bring some more cultural art to the area and to Cape Coral itself,”she said about the event.

The event will feature eight of Passatore’s murals.

Social Media and Marketing Coordinator Tory Renza said those murals will include the Revolutionary War, Civil War, Vietnam War, the three Gulf Wars, Korean War, World War I and World War II.

“She has done murals for all of these. Her husband Jim is the one who installed them,” she said.

The guided tour of the murals will mostly be done in chronological order with the largest exhibit being among them.

Renza said they wanted to hold the event to provide a guided experience of what it was like to participate in conflict and understand the sacrifice the wars took on veterans. She said the event will add culture with the artwork, as well as entertainment with the wine provided by local sponsors.

“It will give them a good cultural experience of Cape Coral and of course our American heritage,” Renza said.
