Colorful Island Stitches Quilt Show Saturday at Matlacha Community Center
In 1988, a group of Pine Island and local residents gathered to pursue their passion for sewing and quilting. All these years later, Quilts R Us continues to meet every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Matlacha Community Center with members sharing their craft with each other and to provide donations to local charities.
The group creates quilts that are distributed through F.I.S.H. on Pine Island in its annual holiday baskets. In addition, the group sews pillow cases in support of Ryan’s Case for Smiles throughout the year to help provide a bit of cheer to children in local hospitals.
This year, the group is showcasing its talents this Saturday, March 23, at the Colorful Island Stitches Quilt Show.
Quilts R Us invites everyone to come enjoy the amazing quilts and other works of artistic needlecraft which will be on display, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Matlacha Community Center. This year there will be more than 80 items on display, predominantly quilts, and some of heirloom quality. The show will feature a variety of quilt sizes, themes and colors, and even a couple of needlecraft winners from the Sanibel Shell Show.
The quilters invite the community to enjoy this creative show with the opportunity to also learn more about the charities supported by Quilts R Us.
