A 15-year-old student has been arrested in connection to a threatening video message posted to social media last month.

Reid Leaton Cross Jr. was charged Wednesday with Written Threat to Kill, according to a release issued by the Cape Coral Police Department late Wednesday afternoon.

Island Coast High School SRO D. Zelko began the investigation on Jan. 25 after a parent came to the school to report that her son had received a threatening video message via Snapchat.

In the video, Cross Jr. “was holding what appeared to be a firearm and threatened to kill the other student,” the release states.

Cape Coral Police Major Crimes Unit Detectives Malone and Kortright took over the investigation.

“It was determined that Cross did send a Snapchat video and written message to a fellow student,” the release states. “The firearm that was used in the video was found to be a BB gun that had the orange tip colored black with a marker.”

Cross Jr. was transferred to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
