The Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will hold three free programs in Cape Coral to help educate the community about Alzheimer’s and dementia.

The first program, “10 Warning Sings of Alzheimer’s,” will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb, 27. It will share information on how to recognize common signs of the disease, approaching someone with memory concerns, as well as early detection importance and possible tests and assessments.

“Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia” will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6. This program will focus on the difference between Alzheimer’s and dementia, risk factors and stages, as well as research and treatments that are currently available for some symptoms.

The final program, “Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body,” will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 13. With science providing insights on how to make lifestyle choices that may help keep the brain and body healthy as one ages, this program will provide information about diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement.

“They do build on each other, so it would be beneficial to attend all three, but not necessary,” Emily Reese, Alzheimer’s Association, Florida Gulf Coast Chapter program manager, said.

All three of the programs will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church, 4522 Coronado Parkway.

The programs are appropriate for the general public and caregivers alike, she said.

Reese said it is helpful if those interested in attending register for the programs by calling (800) 272-3900.
