CPR and Wellness Celebration to be held at Cape Coral Hospital
A first-time event will be held at Cape Coral Hospital to celebrate the Gunterberg Charitable Foundation’s donation of CRP Anytime Kits and educate the community on how to do CPR properly.
Chris Weigelt, director of Cardiovascular Services at Cape Coral Hospital, said the Gunterberg Charitable Foundation approached the hospital and said they really wanted people in Cape Coral to learn and do CPR, and how could they make that happen.
“They have a big involvement with the Cape Coral community. It’s something they want to do just for Cape Coral. A vision for this area,” she said.
Many people do not want to learn CPR because it is kind of scary. That opinion might change for those in the hospital for chest pains, or a mother who just had a baby.
The Gunterberg Charitable Foundation provided Cape Coral Hospital with CPR kits, which they will be giving away to patients after their CPR and Wellness Celebration takes place.
To kick off the donation of kits, a Cape Coral Hospital CPR and Wellness Celebration will be held from 8 a.m. to noon next Saturday, Feb. 16, in the parking lot of Cape Coral Hospital, 636 Del Prado Blvd.
“We are inviting everyone in the community,” Weigelt said.
The celebration will include personnel from the American Heart Association, Gunterberg Charitable Foundation, Cape Coral Fire Department and the Cape Coral Police Department. The American Heart Association and the fire department will show those in attendance how to do CPR and the police department will do finger printing.
Those who attend will have the opportunity to take a CPR Anytime Kit home with them, complete with a DVD and a little doll that inflates.
“When you push on it you can feel how hard you are supposed to push,” she explained of the doll. “If you forget how to do it, you can bring it out and try it again.”
Weigelt said the best thing about the kit is it can be a gift that keeps on giving. The kits can be shared with other moms, dads, sisters and brother, as well as friends and other relatives.
Wellness health checks will be done by Family Health Centers and the Midwest Food Bank distribution truck will also be onsite providing food for those who receive a little stamp on their hand for going to the CPR tent.
“I want to thank everybody that wants to be involved. It’s nice that everybody is working so hard to make sure people know this important thing. You never know when you are going to need CPR,” she said.
After the celebration concludes, Weigelt said they will be giving CPR Anytime Kits to patients at the hospital. Those kits will be provided for patients suffering from chest pains, as well as new mothers.
“The nurses will stop by the rooms and say ‘do you want to learn and give them a kit,'” she said.
