Beach library director stabbed to death
Leroy Hommerding, director of the Fort Myers Beach Library, was stabbed to death Sunday morning while opening the library for a book sale, according to witnesses.
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said police responded to a 9:06 a.m. call at the library on Estero Boulevard and found a male victim, dead on scene.
Witnesses followed suspect Adam M. Soules to a nearby location, he said, where officers apprehended him.
Soules is in custody and cooperating with detectives, officials said. He faces charges of second-degree murder.
“This inexcusable act will not be tolerated,” Marceno said during a press conference. “The safety and security of the residents of this county is my primary focus. It saddens me that I stand here today and tell you about this act.”
