Cape Coral police today are continuing an investigating into a serious injury crash that sent one man to the hospital.

On Tuesday, Nov. 20, at around 2:23 p.m., CCPD officers responded to a call for service in reference to a single vehicle traffic crash in the 400 block of Diplomat Parkway, East.

According to the report, a 1999 red Pontiac Sunfire convertible, driven by John E. Lamp Jr., 58, of Cape Coral ,was traveling east in the outside travel lane of the 400 block of Diplomat Parkway, East, approaching the intersection at Northeast 4th Place when the vehicle suddenly left the roadway to the right, traveling east across several vacant lots.

The report states that the Sunfire then struck the septic field mound in front of 410 Diplomat Parkway, East, and became airborne. The car continued east with its front again striking the ground, the impact causing the Sunfire to rotate on its side and then its top as it slid across the lot and onto the roadway on Northeast 4th Place, where it came to final rest.

CCPD major crash investigators and a drug recognition expert responded to take over the investigation.

Alcohol/drugs are a factor in the traffic crash, police said.
