Organizers of the Lee County Spirit of ’45-WWII Veterans tribute seeks sponsors
Organizers of the Lee County Spirit of ’45-WWII Veterans tribute are seeking sponsors to help fund the dinner now in its eighth year.
This year’s Lee County event, part of a national initiative, will include a veterans sit-down dinner and ceremony to be held Sunday, Aug.12, at the Sanibel Harbour Resort/Marriott, in Fort Myers.
Dinner will start at 4:15 p.m.; the ceremony should end around 7:15 p.m.
The ceremony will include presentation of colors (Color Guard); National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance; World War II guest speakers, POW/MIA service (Missing Man Table); flag folding ceremony; wreath ceremony; entertainment; echo Taps and more.
Reservations are required. The last date for reservations is Aug. 4. World War II veterans and members of our Greatest Generation are free. For all others, the cost is $25 per person.
Sponsorships make the event possible.
There are various sponsorship levels for businesses, ranging from $50 – $1,000. For those who wish to be a personal sponsor, there is a Sponsor-A-Vet program, where you can sponsor a World War II veteran’s meal for $25 and have your name, or, the name of a World War II vet listed in the program.
It is only a matter of time before our Greatest Generation ceases to exist, organizers said.
Statistics show that World War II veterans are passing at the alarming rate of 550 a day.
