Driver charged with DUI after accident
A two-vehicle crash out front of Cape Coral Hospital last week resulted in an arrest.
Teri Lynn Branton, 35, of 4903 York St., Apt. 204, was driving a Saturn north on Del Prado Boulevard Friday at 5:41 a.m. In the 600 block, she entered a left turn lane and tried to turn into the hospital’s front parking, police reported. Branton drove directly in front of a southbound Jeep SUV.
The front of Saturn struck the front of the Jeep head-on. The Saturn came to stop in the south lanes of Del Prado. Forced off the edge of the road, the Jeep came to stop in a grassy area in the parking lot.
The driver of the Jeep, Chastity Lynn Gumtow, 36, of North Fort Myers, sustained minor injuries but refused medical attention, according to police.
Branton sustained several minor injuries and was trauma-alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital.
Police reported that at the hospital, her blood alcohol content was found to be .346.
Upon her discharge, Branton was taken into custody and transported to the Lee County Jail.
She is charged with three counts of DUI unlawful blood alcohol damage property and one count of DUI unlawful blood alcohol .15 or higher or with person under 18, according to booking records.
As of Tuesday, Branton had been released from the jail on $15,000 bond.
She has a court appearance scheduled for Dec. 11.
