A driver who struck the rear of a Cape Coral home has been released from the hospital.

As of Tuesday, Kevin Michael Doyle, 30, of St. James City on Pine Island, had been discharged from a local hospital, where he was transported following the accident early Monday morning, officials reported.

At 12:02 a.m., Doyle was driving a Ford passenger car north on Averill Boulevard in the inside lane and approaching South Gator Circle, according to police. He accelerated northbound rapidly through the intersection at South Gator, crossed all eastbound and westbound lanes, and left the road.

The car entered a vacant lot on the north side of South Gator Circle and continued northbound across the vacant lot until it struck a chain link fence surrounding the property of a home at 1614 N.E. 34th Lane.

The Ford then traveled over the fence heading north, until the front of it struck the rear of the home.

Doyle suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

At the hospital, it was determined that Doyle’s injuries were no longer life-threatening.

Police reported that the accident is alcohol or drug related.
