Resolution to Matlacha annexation dispute on Monday’s agenda

2 min read

Among the ordinance amendment and resolution hearings to be addressed by City Council at Monday’s regular meeting is a request for vacation of an alley plat and underlying easements on a parcel at the intersection of Santa Barbara Boulevard and Veterans Parkway where a former city Fire Station sits vacant.

The request is being made to clear the way for retail development of the larger parcel to include a possible gas station. Staff and the city Hearing Examiner recommend approval.

Besides deciding on a major land use change request regarding the vacant golf course property, council will be asked to approve a resolution settling a dispute between it and the Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Control District over emergency services for the next 20 years at city owned property at the D&D Bait & Tackle location in Matlacha the city moved to annex.

Three hearings are slated that involve a Planned Development Project called Stonewater on 200 acres at the intersection of Tropicana Parkway and Nelson Road. The developer proposes 337 single-family homes for the site. Two city owned parcels recently acquired to service the Utilities Extension Project will be rezoned to institutional and the land use changed from commercial activity center to public facilities.

Council will be asked to rezone property at 912 SW 39th Terrace from residential to multi-family residential. The parcel faces the Cape Coral Library off Mowhawk Parkway. The parcel is sufficient for up to 10 units in a neighborhood of mixed uses compatible with multi-family development.

Applicants are requesting a rezoning of a parcel at 3523 Del Prado Blvd. with a commercial building on site from professional office to pedestrian commercial in order to expand its commercial uses. Staff and the Hearing Examiner recommend approval.

Monday’s meeting starts at 4:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.
