Fund raiser planned to help raise reward in unsolved homicide

2 min read

With the one year anniversary of the murder of a Bonita Springs teenager looming, family, friends and concerned community members will gather this weekend to help raise funds, and awareness, to help track down a killer.

On Sunday, July 9, the public is invited to a family oriented event at Riverside Park in Bonita Springs, just a few blocks away from where Jordan Valero was murdered on July 10, 2016. Jordan’s family has organized a series of events from 3 to 8 p.m. to raise money to help increase the reward for information that leads to the arrest of the person who took the 19 year old’s life. That reward currently stands at $5,500; $4,500 of which has been raised from the public and $1,000 coming from Crime Stoppers.

Vendors will be selling food and a variety of raffles will be taking place throughout the afternoon and evening, with every penny made going directly towards the reward fund. There will also be face painting for the kids, clowns and entertainment for all ages.

“As the one year mark approaches since Jordan was killed, we want the community to remember that his killer is still at large,” said Trish Routte, Crime Stoppers coordinator. “We are confident that there are people who know much more about what happened to Jordan than they’ve shared with law enforcement. We are hopeful that Sunday’s event will reignite conversation about what transpired in the hours leading up to Jordan’s death, and the people who he may have been in contact with.”

Jordan was shot in the early morning hours of July 10, 2016 at his Goodwin Street home in Bonita Springs.

He was born and raised in Bonita and was well known and admired by his peers. His family has struggled over the last year trying to figure out who took Jordan’s life and why someone would resort to this level of violence.
