CCPD searching for brake-repair fraudster
Cape Coral Police detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man running a break-repair scam in parking lots.
The person sought approaches a potential victim, saying there is brake fluid on the ground under their vehicle, the CCPD said in a release warning the public.
“He identifies himself as a ‘mechanic’ and gets under the vehicle, to ‘assist,'” the release states. “While he is down there, he loosens the brake-line, has the victim step on the brakes, causing the pedal to go to the floor. He then tells them he can fix it. He gets a $3 bottle of brake fluid, tightens the brake-line cap, replaces the fluid, and is given ‘money for his troubles.'”
Cape police are asking anyone who was approached by this person to contact the Cape Coral Police Department and file a report.
“Due to potential damage and the safety hazard this presents, if work was done on your car by this suspect, please have your vehicle inspected by a professional and see if that professional can supply paperwork indicating the reason for the inspection and any findings,” the agency asks.
The suspect is possibly driving a black Nissan 4 door with Florida tags. No suspect descriptors were provided.
