Cape man killed in late-night accident in South Fort Myers
A Cape Coral man was struck by a vehicle and killed late Thursday night on Metro Parkway in South Fort Myers.
Killed in the crash was John M. Simone, 42, of Cape Coral.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 11:47 p.m. at the intersection of Metro Parkway (S.R. 739) and Topaz Court.
The report states that a 1998 Mercedes C230W, driven by Michael Bortolametti, 22, of Cape Coral, was traveling south on Metro Parkway in the left lane approaching Topaz Court when it struck Simone, a pedestrian who was standing by a parked motorcycle in the continuous left turn lane, and Marie R. Taylor, 26, of Fort Myers.
Simone was pronounced deceased at the scene and Taylor was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Bortolametti was uninjured, as were two passengers in his vehicle: Taylor Strosnider, 21, of Cape Coral, and Madison Strosnider, 21, also of Cape Coral.
According to the FHP, Bortolametti was charged with DUI and booked into the Lee County Jail.
