A bank teller who stole over $200,000 from an elderly couple has been sentenced to six years in prison, followed by 20 years of probation.

Altagracia Ortuno, of Lehigh Acres, pleaded no contest to charges of grand theft over $100,000 and criminal use of personal identification information ($50,000 or more), according to a prepared statement from the State Attorney Office released Monday. She must also pay $209,000 in restitution.

“Over the course of a year, Ortuno withdrew and stole the money while working at a bank in Bonita Springs, even forging the name of one of the victims on the withdrawal slips,” the release states. “This continued until one victim realized a withdrawal took place while the couple was out of town for their daughter’s wedding.”

Ortuno, 33, used money for various purchases including plastic surgery, football tickets, a pick-up truck, and thousands of dollars on music from iTunes, officials said.

Assistant State Attorney Jennifer Royal of our Economic Crimes Unit handled the case.
