June road closure on Colonial Boulevard announced
FDOT will commence a construction project at Colonial Boulevard/State Road 884 at the Seminole Gulf Railway crossing to improve and upgrade the rail crossing in June.
Construction is anticipated to commence June 9 and finish June 23, weather permitting. The improvements will require a total closure of Colonial Boulevard; therefore, Colonial Boulevard will be closed to through traffic at the rail crossing for the previously described duration.
East of the rail crossing, local traffic only will be permitted from Metro Parkway to the Lee County School Board/O’Brien Hyundai driveways.
West of the rail crossing, local traffic only will be permitted from Evans Avenue to the Federal Express/Super 8 and Park Positano driveways.
FDOT, the City of Fort Myers, and Lee County urge motorists to find alternate routes. Alternate east-west routes include: SR 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Edison Avenue, Hanson Street, Winkler Avenue, Daniels Parkway, and Six Mile Cypress Parkway. Alternate north-south routes include: I-75, Six Mile Cypress Parkway, Plantation Road/Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard, Metro Parkway, Evans Avenue, Fowler Street, US 41/S. Cleveland Avenue, Summerlin Road, and McGregor Boulevard.
