The Lee Health Board of Directors has chosen Larry Antonucci, M.D., to succeed Jim Nathan as president/CEO of the health system. Antonucci has served as system chief operating officer since 2011. He also served as chief administrative officer for Cape Coral Hospital.

Prior to joining Lee Health in 2007, Antonucci was a practicing obstetrician and gynecologist. In 1983, he co-founded Physicians Primary Care, a large multi-specialty group practice in Lee County, and served as its chief executive officer for many years.

Antonucci replaces Nathan, who is stepping down as president to serve as a resource to the Board of Directors and to Antonucci for the remainder of his contract term, which expires in March 2019.

As COO for Lee Health, Antonucci has led the patient care team at all Lee Health facilities. His responsibilities have included the operation of all six hospitals within the health system; outpatient facilities; post-acute services; ancillary clinical departments such as Pharmacy, Respiratory Therapy, Laboratory Services, and Radiology/Imaging Services; and physician practices owned by Lee Health. In addition, his duties included developing a physician organization that is a partnership between the system and local physicians which implements a shared vision for health care in the community.

Antonucci will assume the role of President/CEO on June 1.
