Two remain hospitalized following Thursday crash
Two people remained hospitalized on Tuesday following a serious traffic crash last week.
Sabrina Lee Gravitt, 59, 416 N.W. Fourth St., was listed in critical condition and Timothy Brian Gravitt, 37, of 4785 Barkley Circle, Apt. 37, Fort Myers, was listed in fair condition at Lee Memorial Hospital, where both were transported on Thursday following the accident, according to officials.
The Cape Coral police reported that Donald W. Tinder, 58, of 416 N.W. Fourth St., was driving a Chevrolet Impala east on Northeast Pine Island Road in the inside lane. In the 1700 block, he attempted to make a left turn into the parking lot of the Lowe’s and Steak ‘n Shake at about 3 p.m.
According to witnesses, westbound traffic on Pine Island had come to a complete stop.
As the Chevrolet crossed the two stopped lanes and began to enter the entrance of the parking lot, it was T-boned by a Ford Escape SUV, driven by Glen Albert Lazzeri, 62, of 4332 N.W. 27th Lane.
Witnesses stated that Lazzeri had been traveling west on Pine Island in the outside lane. As he came to the stopped vehicles ahead, he improperly steered to the right and drove through several safety areas – white-stripped traffic control areas – before the Chevy appeared, trying to turn before him.
The front of the SUV struck the passenger side of the vehicle. The Chevy was forced to the west and came to a final stop off the side of the road, while the SUV came to a stop near the area of impact.
Police reported that Tinder sustained minor injuries, but refused medical attention.
Lazzeri and his passenger, Ranell Collenne Lazzeri, 52, of 4332 N.W. 27th Lane, sustained minor injuries and were taken to the Cape Coral Hospital. Both had been discharged as of Tuesday.
Sabrina Lee Gravitt, front passenger in the Chevy, and Timothy Brian Gravitt, rear passenger in the vehicle, sustained life-threatening injuries and were trauma-alerted to the hospital by ambulance.
The crash is not alcohol or drug related, according to police.
The investigation is ongoing.
