A festival celebrating a mix nationalities, including American, is set for this weekend.

Hosted by the German American Social Club of Cape Coral, International Night will be held on Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the club. Cost is $6 for members and $10 for non-members.

“It’s a celebration of the different nationalities represented by our various club members,” Susie Zimmer, with the GASC, said. “To show our members are not just made up of Germans.”

She noted that the annual event has been going on for several years.

The club had planned to expand this year’s event to include an outdoor festival from noon to 5 p.m., featuring culinary specialities from around the world. However, the day event has been canceled.

For International Night, the live entertainment will be provided by Matthias.

“It’s German music,” Zimmer said. “He’s upbeat – it’s upbeat music.”

“He also integrates some modern American stuff,” she added.

A flag parade will take place during the event.

“There will be 20 nations represented,” Zimmer said.

“The flag bearers will be wearing the costumes of the separate nations,” she added.

Attendees are encouraged to dress in their national garb, as well.

“Lots of members show up in different outfits that represent their countries,” Zimmer said.

Dinner will be available from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., with the special being lasagna.

“We also have an array of different assortments that we offer,” she said.

Zimmer noted that the event is an opportunity for the community to come together.

“We love sharing who we are and what we do with the community,” she said.

Organizers encouraged the public to stop on by.

“It’s a lot of dancing,” Zimmer said. “The music is good – the food is good.”

“It’s just an enjoyable evening,” she added.
