Sexual assault reported at Island Coast High
Authorities are investigating an alleged sexual assault reported at a Cape Coral school.
On Tuesday, a female student at Island Coast High School, at 2125 De Navarra Parkway, was alone with a male classmate in the morning when he exposed himself to her. According to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office report, the unidentified boy then pulled her pants down and forced himself on to her.
The girl did not tell her teacher or any staff member at the school about the incident.
The report states that the girl arrived home from school upset and went directly to her room without talking to anyone. Her mother found this to be odd for her daughter, leading her to inquire further.
At 7:28 p.m., deputies were dispatched in reference to the past occurred sex crime.
LCSO officials confirmed on Thursday that the investigation remained open.
“Active and ongoing investigation,” Sgt. Anita Iriarte said.
The Lee County School District declined to comment on the alleged incident.
“We cannot comment as it’s an active investigation,” Lauren Stillwell, the director of communications and production for the school district, said on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the schools principal released the following statement:
“Good evening, this is Principal Kristin Bueno at Island Coast High School.
“Working in partnership to provide open communication and ensure the safety of all students, I want to let you know that the Lee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an alleged crime on our campus.
“I do expect that the media will report on this incident. As the investigation is active, there is not much I can share with you at this time, but will keep you informed to the best of my ability.
“Providing a safe and secure learning environment is of top priority for us, and for our school district. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me, or a member of our leadership team.
