SCHEA’s 3rd Annual South Cape St. Patrick’s Day Trolley Event Friday

4 min read

Shamrocks, leprechauns, everything green – kick off the weekend with a South Cape event.

Hosted by the South Cape Hospitality and Entertainment Associations, the 3rd Annual South Cape St. Patrick’s Day Trolley Event will take place on Friday from 7 to 11 p.m. at 12 participating locations. Each venue will serve up a $2.50 speciality drink, while attendees have a shot at winning a gift basket.

“Everyone likes to have a good time on St. Patrick’s Day,” Donna Meola, executive director of the South Cape Hospitality and Entertainment Associations, said. “Everyone’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day.”

Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 the day of the event.

“We did sell out last year,” she said.

In 2016, 800 tickets were made available to the public.

“We’ve upped it to 1,00 this year,” Meola said, noting that another trolley has been added.

Each attendee will receive a passport that they can get stamped at the venues. Once they have their entire passport stamped, they turn it in at any of the participating locations or to a trolley hostess. The gift basket is stuffed full of Guinness, Jameson Irish Whiskey, Baileys Irish Cream and pint glasses.

“Those are Irish type of liquors and Guinness, of course, is an Irish beer,” she said.

Trivia games on the trolleys provide another shot at winning goodies.

“It’s swag,” Meola said. “Key chains, T-shirts, koozies.”

Trolley prizes also include gift cards from the participating locations.

Among the venues, the $2.50 drinks run the gamut. There will be The Codie Doolin, Chocolate Lepre-chaun, Dixie Shamrock, Rasp-berry Hornet, Rocking Lepre-chaun and Green Margarita.

Meola explained that BackStreets Sports Bar will be serving up a tasty shot made out of creme de cacao, green creme de menthe, peppermint schnapps and cream. It is called the Thin Mint.

“It tastes exactly like Thin Mints,” she said.

A little less sweet, Tiki Hut Bar & Grill will offer up its Lucky Dolphin.

“They’re doing Guinness and a shot of Jameson,” Meola said.

Another one for the taste buds will be the Green with Envy, being served up by Ralph’s Place. The drink will consist of vodka and Blue Curacao, mixed up with orange juice and sweet and sour.

“That’s a good one,” she said.

Guinness Stout, Killian’s Red and Celtic Cooler – a craft beer – are also on the list.

A photo booth will be set up in the lobby of the Dolphin Key Resort.

“It’s be a photo booth filled with St. Patrick’s Day decorations,” Meola said.

Check-in booths will be open from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Club Square and Big John Plaza. Late check-in will available after 7:30 in the lobby of the Dolphin Key Resort or outside of the Dixie Roadhouse.

Attendees will get to pick a green beanie or shamrock light-up necklace at check-in.

“They have their choice this year,” she said. “A little bit of variety.”

“We’re trying to do this a little different,” Meola added. “Adding a little more to our events.”

For $10, a Designed Driver ticket entitles the holder to free water and soda at the venues.

“We think it’s important that people have fun but get home safely,” she said.

Meola noted that DD tickets are now available for every event.

“We want all of our guests to have a good time but be safe,” she said.

To purchase event tickets in advance, stop by any of the participating locations or visit online at: www.eventbrite.com. Designed Driver tickets are only available from BackStreets Sports Bar.

“We hope this one is the biggest and best one we’ve done yet,” Meola said of the third annual celebration. “St. Patrick’s Day is just a great day to get out and have some fun.”
