Parks & Rec Department’s Click & Capture Cape Coral Photo Contest under way

3 min read

Residents and visitors can snap and share a few photographs of what the Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Department has to offer the public for a chance at winning several prizes.

Last week, the department kicked off its Click & Capture Cape Coral Photo Contest. Professional to amateur photographers can submit digital photo entries via Facebook under three categories – Active & Healthy, Nature of the Cape and Event Fun. The voting public will choose the Fan Favorite Photo.

“With the new Parks Master Plan last year – there’s a lot of excitement around parks and the future of parks (in the Cape),” Michelle Dean, a spokeswoman for the Parks and Recreation Department, said.

“This was a way to encourage some public engagement and excitement surrounding the parks,” she added. “And we can utilize the photos to better showcase our city moving forward.”

Dean noted that the Cape has organized photo contests before via social media.

“This is the first time we’ve done something of this caliber though,” she said.

The Cape contest was modeled after one by the Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau.

“We’re really hoping for as much interaction as possible,” Dean said.

Entries can be submitted through a contest tab at: m.facebook.com/CapeCoralParks/.

“People can enter as many times as they’d like,” she said.

The submissions will be filed into one of the categories, then judged by a panel of community leaders, according to Dean. The panel will select a winner and a runner-up in each of the categories.

During the final week of the contest, all of the photos will be posted on Facebook.

“The one with the most fan votes at the end of the week will win,” she said.

A total of seven winners will be named in the contest.

“This is a great way to help collect some images that people might already have,” Dean said.

The winners will earn a one-night stay at The Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village, $200 Amazon gift card, $100 Cape Coral Parks & Recreation gift card and two VIP tickets to the 2017 Red, White & Boom. The runner-ups will win a $100 Amazon gift card, $100 Parks & Recreation gift card, twosome of golf at the Coral Oaks Golf Course and four tickets to Sun Splash Family Waterpark.

The winner of the Fan Favorite Photo will take home a $100 Parks & Recreation gift card, twosome round of golf at the Coral Oaks Golf Course and four tickets to Sun Splash Family Waterpark.

She noted that the prizes are worth over $2,700 in total.

Entries will be accepted through April 30.

“They want to make sure they review the rules,” Dean said.

“They are giving up their rights to the photos,” she added. “And they need to make sure they’re submitting photos of people they have approval to take pictures of.”

The contest is open to legal U.S. residents ages 18 or older as of the entry date.

“This is a great opportunity for everyone in the community to really get out and explore their own backyard,” Dean said. “And to help us convey this to others and share this with others.”
