PRCA Rodeo returns to Posse Arena this weekend
The start of the Lee County Fair isn’t the only thing going on in North Fort Myers.
About a mile away, the fifth annual PRCA Rodeo will return for two performances Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Lee County Posse Arena, presented by Certified Heating & Cooling, which has taken over as the title sponsor.
Come see the country’s best cowboys and cowgirls compete for more than $20,000 in prize money in bull riding, bronc riding, calf roping, steer wrestling and barrel racing.
Of course, the event is about more than the competition. It’s about the entire experience.
This year’s rodeo is again going to feature Trent McFarland as the clown and the Klein Brothers from Louisiana providing the stock. The event was moved from March so it wouldn’t conflict with St. Patrick’s Day.
In terms of promotion, Genifer Williams has taken over from Margo Crowther, who has relinquished some of her duties to ride full time on the rodeo circuit. Her husband, Casey, is still a main producer.
“Margo is traveling a lot and competing in the big rodeos out west, but she’s still going to be here for this,” Williams said. “We’re expecting her to be here in time to compete.”
For the kids, there will be mutton bustin’ at 6:30 p.m. and a calf scramble after the saddle bronc riding. Outside the ring, there will be bounce houses.
For the adults, there will be a raffle, a food truck round-up, vendors selling western clothing for men and women, as well as a mechanical bull.
Slack, which is where the leftover contestants compete if there are too many to fit in the performances, will be held Friday morning at 8 a.m.
Williams said she expects this to be the best rodeo weekend yet.
“The Klein Brothers always bring great entertainment, the rodeo announcer is really good and Trent always does the big rodeos,” Williams said.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children 5 and up. There is also a limited supply of $75 VIP tickets which includes food from Hooters, adult drinks and parking.
Gates open at 5 p.m.
