Pine Island Art Association’s 45th annual art show, sale this weekend
Matlacha and Pine Island seem to have become the Southwest Florida tourist and artist destination, receiving a great deal of interest this season. Thankfully the passage of time has not diminished the wonderful “Old Florida” atmosphere that visitors will find at the Pine Island Art Association’s 45th Annual Art Show and Sale, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 11 and 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The show is located inside the Matlacha Community Building in Matlacha Community Park, 4577 Pine Island Road, just west of the Matlacha Bridge. Don’t miss this opportunity to combine a visit to the PIAA Show with a tour of Matlacha.
Honoring the past is what Matlacha is all about. This historic fishing village that hugs the shoreline of Matlacha Pass has maintained the appearance of years gone by. The old fisherman’s cottages have become art galleries, shops, restaurants and fresh fish markets. Matlacha is a wonderful compliment to the PIAA’s Annual Show.
Each year the PIAA Show attracts Southwest Florida residents and flocks of “snowbirds.” Visitors will find a large selection of landscapes, seascapes, birds, flowers, fish and wildlife. There will be watercolors, acrylic, oil and pastels painted by many talented and experienced artists. All the work has been professionally framed and ready to hang in your home. Collectors come early in search of unique Florida artwork by local artists that is the trademark of this show. The subject matter and the warm colors evoke the spirit of this laid-back paradise. Paintings purchased at this show become treasured possessions in homes and collections throughout Southwest Florida.
There will also be a large selection of original mini paintings, 3 1/2 X 4 1/2, each double matted. Carefully painted by the PIAA members, they can be displayed alone or in a group. You can give them as a gift or keep them as a special reminder of a day in Matlacha. These mini paintings may be purchased for $10 each. Frame kits designed to fit the minis will be also available for $10 or $15.
Art Association members will greet visitors at the door and invite them to sample home baked goods after viewing the artwork. The artists will be there to talk to shoppers.
It will be a trip back in time to a Florida that is rapidly disappearing. Don’t miss this opportunity to taste the flavor of that time. Visit www.pineislandart.com or call 239-283-4432 for more information.
