Water quality issues, city auditor hiring top council agenda

2 min read

A light agenda awaits City Council for Monday’s regular meeting, but several discussion topics will be addressed.

Besides several resolutions on the consent portion of the agenda, council will discuss water quality, council memberships and dues, hear a first report on the hiring of a new city auditor and address a letter from the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council.

Recruiting firm The Mercer Group sent the city a proposed advertisement for the city auditor’s position and outlined the time frame for the search. Recruitment will close on Jan. 6 with a packet containing semifinalist candidates suggested to be delivered by Jan. 11.

A special workshop meeting with council is slated between Jan. 17 and 19 to select finalists. Background reports will be submitted late in the month, followed in February by candidate introductions and a special meeting to interview the candidates.

The Regional Planning Council is proposing updates and revisions to the existing interlocal agreement with six area counties. Each county has two seats on the RPC with an additional seat to assign to a municipality in that county. By-laws require member counties to pay a proportionate share of the RPC budget.

RPC chair Jim Burch is offering members six options to recommend membership changes to the interlocal agreement.

Monday’s meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.
