Cape man charged for involvement in several accidents
A Cape Coral driver has been arrested and charged after his involvement in multiple crashes.
Michael Austin Lowry, 26, of 309 S.E. 17th Terrace, is facing one count of reckless driving causing serious bodily injury following a chain reaction of accidents on Saturday on Veterans Parkway.
At about 11 p.m., Lowry was westbound on Veterans Parkway West in the 500 block when another driver hit his vehicle. According to police, Lowry followed the vehicle to try and get the driver to stop.
Several witnesses reported that Lowry passed them at a high rate of speed, left his lane of travel and struck the other vehicle with his. As a result of the impact, the other driver’s vehicle flipped over.
Two vehicles approaching the crash had to brake quickly, causing them to get into an accident.
According to police, the driver who hit Lowry’s vehicle was a juvenile on a learner’s permit driver’s license.
The juvenile was taken to the Cape Coral Hospital for a head laceration that required stitches.
The juvenile was cited in the first accident.
Police reported that an investigation determined Lowry was driving recklessly, resulting in serious bodily injury to a person. He was detained by officers and transported to the Lee County Jail.
As of Tuesday, Lowry had been released from the jail.
He has a court appearance set for Nov. 7.
The roadway was shut down for over two hours due to the crashes.
