Bicyclist hurt in early September accident listed in good condition at hospital
A Cape Coral bicyclist is improving at a local hospital following a crash three weeks ago.
As of Tuesday, David L. Biasotti, 45, of 919 S.E. Eighth Terrace, Apt. 1, was listed in good condition at Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was transported on Sept. 12 after the accident, according to officials.
Cape police reported that Biasotti was stopped on the east sidewalk in the 800 block of Del Prado Boulevard, approximately 120 feet south of Viscaya Parkway. At 7:53 a.m., he rode his bicycle across the northbound lanes of Del Prado Boulevard while the traffic was stopped, then onto the median.
As Biasotti entered the inside southbound lane of Del Prado, the light turned green, according to witnesses. A southbound Dodge Dart that had been stopped at the red light in the inside lane pulled forward. The bicyclist drove directly in front of the southbound traffic and in front of the Dodge.
The front of the Dodge struck the right side of Biasotti, police reported. As a result of the impact, Biasotti struck the hood and windshield of the vehicle before coming to rest in the southbound lanes.
Biasotti was trauma-alerted to the hospital with multiple life-threatening injuries.
According to police, he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Neither the driver of the Dodge, Tamara Medina Moreno, 48, of 510 N.E. Seventh Ave., nor her sole passenger, Marilyn Veloz Medina, 21, also of 510 N.E. Seventh Ave., were injured in the accident.
Officials reported on Tuesday that the investigation is ongoing.
