Two council meetings next week
Cape Coral City Council will be asked to approve a planned development project known as Venture Church Campus at Monday’s regular meeting at City Hall.
Council actually has two meetings scheduled next week. The second meeting is a special workshop session on Wednesday at the Nicholas Annex building. The main topic of discussion os a look at the parks master plan.
The master plan’s goal is to identify issues, needs and opportunities of the city’s parks system. Growth, modernization, funding, land acquisition and planning actions are being addressed.
The plan is being assembled with the private consulting firm of Barth Associates, which has held a series of interactive meetings with the general public attending and an online survey.
Venture Church, located on Del Prado Boulevard, is expanding to include a 550-seat worship building and office building with landscaping and parking improvements north of the existing building situated just south of Hancock Bridge Parkway. Rezoning the property would provide consistent zoning for the church site that includes lots along the parallel Southeast 16th Place to the east.
The property has been zoned commercial/professional since 1989. Planning & Zoning Commission recommends approval of the development with a 10-space reduction in required parking of 198 spaces.
Council also is being asked to approve an amendment to the city’s comprehensive planchanging the future land use map on less than 52 acres of 126 properties in the Bimini Basin area from commercial/professional, single and multifamily residential and parks to a new designation of downtown mixed use. The acreage lies along Cape Coral Parkway between Palm Tree Boulevard and Coronado Parkway.
The change clears the way for future development and identifying land uses for the long range Bimini Basin development vision plan. Residents in the area, especially single-family dwellings, are concerned how the change will affect their property values. Downtown mixed use would continue to allow existing property uses.
Many of those properties are located along and north of Southeast 47th Terrace west of Coronado. Planning & Zoning Commission recommends approval of the land use change.
Staff will update council Monday night on the progress of the new 311 call center initiative after one year of service. Statistics are being compared to the current Citizens Action Center phone call activity. Staff expects an increase in the annual number of non-emergency calls with the new system.
Monday’s regular council meeting starts at 4:30 p.m. in Council Chambers. Wednesday’s workshop meeting starts at 4:30 p.m.
