Man remains hospitalized following single-vehicle car crash
A Cape Coral man remains hospitalized after driving off the road and striking a palm tree.
As of Thursday, William R. Edwards, 35, was listed in fair condition at Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was transported following the accident near U.S. 41 and Palm Drive, according to officials.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Edwards was driving an Acura ILX northbound on 41 on April 2 at 1:45 p.m. For unknown reasons, the Acura traveled in a northwesterly direction just south of Palm and the front left section of the vehicle collided into plants in the median of the road.
The vehicle then traveled in a northeasterly direction, crossing all of the northbound lanes of 41. It exited the road on the right shoulder and the right middle section of the Acura struck the palm tree. The top of the palm tree fell off, and the vehicle came to a final stop in a landscaped area near the road.
The accident is not alcohol related, according to the FHP.
The crash remains under investigation.
