Man injured in bicycle accident released from hospital

2 min read

A bicyclist who was found lying in the road last week has been released from the hospital.

As of Tuesday, Michael Fahey, 73, of Cape Coral, had been discharged from the Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was taken on Friday, Oct. 9, after being discovered on Del Prado Boulevard.

At 1:11 p.m., several people called 911 in reference to a man lying with a bicycle in the outside southbound lane of Del Prado in the 4600 block, partially on the curb or sidewalk. When Cape police arrived on scene, they determined that Fahey had a faint pulse, but he then become unresponsive.

Police reported that Fahey was trauma-alerted to the hospital. Despite wearing a helmet, he sustained trauma to the left rear portion of his head – just below the helmet line – where it hit the ground.

None of the witnesses reported that they saw a traffic crash, stating that they just saw Fahey on the ground. The touring bicycle on scene showed no damage from a collision with another vehicle.

An area canvas of nearby businesses showed no video cameras that caught the incident.

Fahey does not remember anything except leaving his home, according to police.

“Based on all evidence, this case is not a traffic crash (involving another vehicle) at this point,” Sgt. Dana Coston, spokesman for the Cape police, reported in a prepared statement released Sunday.
